This report presents data from the North Dakota Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program for 2005.
Abstract
UCR Index offenses include the violent crimes of murder/non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault; and the property crimes of burglary, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle theft. In 2005, 12,563 Crime Index offenses were reported by local law enforcement agencies, a 4.1-percent increase from the 12,073 reported in 2004. The Index Crime rate per 100,000 population for 2005 was 1,872.2, compared to 1,902.8 for 2004. Approximately 19 percent of Crime Index offenses were reported as cleared by arrest or exceptional means. In 2005, 2,641 arrests were reported for Crime Index offenses. Of that total, 41 percent were arrests of juveniles. Just over $11.9 million worth of property was reported stolen in 2005, with 36.9 percent of the amount reported as recovered. In 2005, 600 violent crimes were reported in the State, a 13.6-percent increase from 2004. Violent crime composed 4.8 percent of reported Crime Index offenses in North Dakota in 2005. Of the 411 total arrests reported for violent crimes, 25.8 percent were arrests of juveniles. The number of property crimes reported was 11,963, a 3.6-percent increase from 2004. Just over 17 percent of property crimes were cleared by arrest or exceptional means in 2005. Drug arrests and DUI (driving under the influence) are reported by age groups.
