THIS COMPREHENSIVE REPORT OF CRIME IN OHIO, BASED ON DATA FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND OFFICERS, SEEKS TO IDENTIFY THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF CRIME IN THE STATE.
Abstract
THE INFORMATION CAN BE USED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO CONTROL CRIME AND PROVIDE CITIZENS WITH COMPLETE CRIME INFORMATION AND TO SUPPLY LEGISLATORS AND RESEARCHERS WITH THE DATA NECESSARY TO ADDRESS THE CRIME PROBLEM. OFFENSES ARE CLASSIFIED IN TWO MAJOR PARTS: (1) VIOLENT CRIMES, INCLUDING MURDER, MANSLAUGHTER, RAPE, ROBBERY, AND AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND PROPERTY CRIME, INCLUDING BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT; AND (2) OTHER OFFENSES, INCLUDING ARSON, VANDALISM, SEX OFFENSES, FRAUD, AND DRIVING OFFENSES. THE CRIME REPORT LISTS OFFICERS ASSAULTED AND KILLED AND EXAMINES THE SITUATIONS IN WHICH THE HIGHEST RATES OF ASSAULT OCCURRED. THE OHIO CRIME INDEX PRESENTS AN OVERVIEW OF CRIME IN THE STATE, AND INDIVIDUAL REPORTS REVIEW OFFENSES IN MORE DETAIL, PRIMARILY THROUGH THE USE OF CHARTS AND GRAPHS. TOTAL REPORTED ACTIVITY FOR THE YEAR OF THE REPORT SHOWS A SLIGHT DECREASE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS. THE REPORT IS ACCOMPANIED BY MANY COLORED CHARTS GRAPHS AND MAPS. (RFC)
