This report presents statistics on the violent and property crimes committed in Oklahoma in 1995 and describes the April 19 bombing of the Alfred Murrah Building, which alone accounted for most of a 77-percent increase in murders over the year before.
Abstract
The statistics revealed that violent crimes increased for the eighth year in a row. A total of 21,748 violent crimes were committed in 1995, a 2.6-percent increase over 1994 figures. Rape declined by 9.5 percent, robbery declined by 9.2 percent, aggravated assault increased by 6 percent, and murders without the bombing increased by 2.7 percent. Increases in auto theft and burglary resulted in an overall 0.9-percent increase in nonviolent crimes. Larceny theft was the largest crime category and involved 103,612 offenses. Index crimes increased by 1.1 percent over those reported in 1994. Figures, tables, and photographs
