Abstract
The report indicates that 936,224 crimes of all types were reported to the UCR Program in 1994. This total represented a rate of 7,770.8 crimes per 100,000 population, an increase of 0.7 percent over 1993. In 1994, 377,843 index crimes were reported and confirmed by Pennsylvania police after investigation. Index crimes included murder, nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In addition, 558,349 Part II offenses were reported, for a rate of 4,634.4 per 100,000 population and an increase of 1.7 percent over 1993. Part II offenses included certain assaults, forgery, counterfeiting, fraud, embezzlement, stolen property, vandalism, weapons, prostitution, certain sex offenses, drug abuse violations, gambling, offenses against the family, driving under the influence, liquor law violations, drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and vagrancy. In 1994, 47.7 percent of all offenses were cleared (27.7 percent of index offenses and 61.2 percent of Part II offenses). Appendixes contain supplemental data on Part I and Part II offenses by jurisdiction and on college and university crimes and clearances. Tables and figures
