This catalog is designed to provide Canadian police and community groups with an index of all crime prevention and police-community relation programs available in the country.
Abstract
Detailed program descriptions are provided for eight categories of programs. Patrol programs include community-based citizen patrols, logging and range patrols, a farm security program, and licensed premises checks. Among police-community relation programs are a career night, a meet-your-policeman program, a community television show, victim services, sports fitness programs, an arts contest, and programs targeted to minorities and native peoples. Programs for businesses include business security inspections, a taxis-on-patrol project, and a pharmacy security program. Others focus on the prevention of armed hold-ups, fraud, food delivery and general robbery, short-changing, and self-service gasoline station theft. Public education programs have dealt with such topics as gambling, drugs, auto theft fraud, sexual assault, vandalism, and self-protection. A variety of neighborhood-watch type programs have focused on residential security through community involvement. Safety programs have addressed a variety of topics from bicycle, boat, and snowmobile safety to special programs for hunters, seniors, children, tourists, and impaired drivers. A variety of programs have used variations of operation identification. Finally, youth programs have included outreach and recreation programs, school programs, and programs dealing with juvenile alcohol and drug abuse.
