Computer-related crime has become an increasing problem in Japan in recent years and has generated countermeasures that include law reforms and security measures.
Abstract
The most common crimes are the theft of funds from another person's bank account through the use of cash dispensing cards. Other crimes include falsifying or erasing programs and data, physical destruction of a computer, unauthorized access to data, unauthorized use of computers, introduction of computer viruses, and using a computer to simulate a crime in preparation for committing another type of crime. Countermeasures have included the addition of new provisions to the Penal Code in 1987 and the use of added physical and data security measures. Table
