Abstract
INCLUDED ARE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SOME METHODS USED, PLUS DATA ON STATIONING, SPECIAL DUTY ASSIGNMENTS, COMPOSITION, LENGTH OF TOUR OF DUTY, MEANS OF TRANSPORT USED TO REACH THE PATROL AREA, EQUIPMENT USED, AND THE USE OF DOGS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT, ALTHOUGH IT IS DIFFICULT TO ASSESS SCIENTIFICALLY, THE EXPERIENCE OF A LARGE NUMBER OF COUNTRIES HAS SHOWN THAT FOOT PATROLS OFFER UNQUESTIONABLE ADVANTAGES IN POLICE CRIME PREVENTION.
