ANALYSIS OF THE PENAL SYSTEM AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GREATER EFFECTIVENESS.
Abstract
IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT PUNISHMENT OF CRIMINALS IS NOT SOCIALLY PROTECTIVE BUT SELF-DESTRUCTIVE AND THAT IT AGGRAVATES CRIME. QUICK AND APPROPRIATE PENALTIES RATHER THAN A SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE IS ADVOCATED. POLICE, CORRECTIONAL RESEARCH, DETENTION, PSYCHIATRY, AND IMPROVEMENTS IN THE FIELD ARE DISCUSSED. THERAPEUTIC CONCEPTS MAY BE OF PARTICULAR INTEREST.
