Abstract
Crime science is a multi-disciplinary approach that attempts to provide a better understanding of how to prevent and detect crime, drawing on criminology, economics, psychology, mathematics, geography, architecture, and other fields to examine crime patterns and develop solutions to the problems. This book provides an introduction and overview to crime science. It provides a statement of the nature and objectives of crime science. The book is divided into four parts. In part 1, the background to the emergence of crime science as a discipline is presented. Part 2 focuses on the theory and methodology used in crime science. Part 3 includes case studies of crime science applied to the prevention of crime and illustrates how versatile and far reaching the impact of crime science can be. Prevention areas described include prevention in correctional institutions, vehicle crime, and crime at motoring service areas.
