Abstract

Of the total arrests, 29,664 involved adults and 8,630 were juveniles; the age group between 25 and 29 years had the highest total arrest rate. Of 13 reported murders, 53.9 percent of the offenders were known to victims. Forty percent of persons arrested for 227 reported rapes were in their 20's, and juveniles were arrested in 14 percent of the cases. Of 84 reported robberies, 29.8 percent occurred on the highway. The value of stolen property totaled about $8.1 million, while the value of recovered property was only about $2.9 million. Of 3,251 reported burglaries, 52.7 percent involved forcible entry and approximately $1.6 million in stolen property; 30 percent occurred at a nonresidence at night, and 45 percent of persons arrested were juveniles. The 13,616 reported larceny offenses involved $3.7 million in stolen property, and 47 percent of persons arrested were juveniles. Juveniles were arrested for 50 percent of 696 reported motor vehicle thefts. Property losses for 101 reported arson offenses totaled $711,900, and 30 percent of those arrested were 10-12 years of age. Of 741 reported aggravated assaults, 270 involved the hands, fists, and feet, and 17 percent of persons arrested were juveniles. Additional data are provided on the police disposition of arrested juveniles, crime index offenses by sheriff and police, and law enforcement officers assaulted.
