This publication contains crime statistics for South Dakota for the year 2011.
Abstract
Highlights from this report on crime statistics for South Dakota for the year 2011 include the following: 37,202 Group A Offenses were reported by local law enforcement agencies during the year, while Group B Offenses totaled 19,070 completed by 18,770 arrestees; 40 percent of the crimes (14,847) occurred at a residence or home and 13 percent (4,936) occurred on a highway/road/alley; of the 2,566 burglaries reported, 46 percent were forced entry; and more than $17 million worth of property loss was reported during the year ($17,847,011). In addition, State law enforcement agencies reported 14,570 Group A arrests and 18,770 Group B arrests, with juvenile arrests accounting for 19 percent of the total arrests (6,342); reported arrests for DUI was 5,775 in 2011; and arrests for drug offenses increased 18 percent from the total number of arrests for drug offenses in 2010. Data for this report were obtained from 118 State and local law enforcement agencies for the period January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011. Law enforcement agencies reported the data as part of the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
