Abstract
THE CRIME-SPECIFIC BURGLARY PREVENTION HANDBOOK DESCRIBES THE EFFORTS OF POLICE IN SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES, SAN DIEGO AND OAKLAND TO PROMOTE A BURGLARY PREVENTION PROGRAM, REPORTS THE EXPERIENCE OF SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENTS IN LOS ANGELES AND ORANGE COUNTIES, AND EVALUATES THE YEAR-LONG CRIME-SPECIFIC BURGLARY PROGRAMS CONDUCTED BY EACH OF THE SIX LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. THE HANDBOOK ALSO DISCUSSES THE PLANNING OF AN ANTI-BURGLARY PROGRAM, AND THE MAJOR ELEMENTS IN TRAINING CRIME-SPECIFIC TEAMS. FINALLY, THE HANDBOOK DETAILS FIVE AREAS IN WHICH POLICE APPLIED SPECIFIC BURGLARY ABATEMENT TECHNIQUES: PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT, BUILDING SECURITY, POLICE PATROL, POLICE INVESTIGATION, AND STOLEN PROPERTY MARKETS.
