This report's tables, graphs, and charts show the volume and distribution of crime in West Virginia in 1992, based on Crime Index. The crime figures are broken down by municipal, county, regional, and State totals.
Abstract
Statistics address the total volume of Index Crime and the following offenses: murder forcible rape, robbery, felonious assault, breaking and entering, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft. The index crime rate per 100,000 residents is shown for the same offenses. Other charts and tables provide statistics on Index Crime clearance rates, Index Crime arrests, the value of property stolen, law enforcement officers killed and assaults, and arson offenses. The number of sworn and civilian law enforcement employees is also shown, as is the State population, broken down by rural and municipal areas. In 1992, West Virginia had a total of 47,231 reported Index Crimes, of which 3,830 were violent and 43,401 were nonviolent. The clearance rate for violent crimes was 49 percent, and the clearance rate for nonviolent crimes was 19.3 percent.
