This manual includes tactics and responsibilities for responding to crimes-in-progress calls and dealing with the situation.
Abstract
Instruction is provided in the following categories: (1) searching a building or open area for a suspect; (2) methods of responding to crimes-in-progress and criteria for selecting response methods and routes; (3) responding to a burglary-in-progress call, a robbery-in-progress call or a prowler call; (4) tactical steps for reacting to sniper fire; (5) driver tactics for reacting to sniper fire and to a firebomb; (6) reacting to a nonfatal wound; (7) handling suspects who are intoxicated; (8) tactics for handling a barricaded suspect; (9) characteristics of body armor; and (10) responsibilities of a Primary Officer, and of a Cover Officer. There is an exercise in Body Armor Use and three scenarios: (1) Handling Crime-in-Progress Calls; (2) Officer Safety - Ambush/Sniper; and (3) Act as Cover Officer. There are sections for supporting material and references; each training institution should establish its own list of such materials.
