CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS ON THE SUBJECT OF CRIMINAL LAW ASPECTS OF THE TRAFFIC CODE ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE CONFERENCE TOOK PLACE IN ROTTERDAM (NETHERLANDS) FROM JUNE 13 TO 17, 1977, AND WAS ATTENDED BY GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES AND CRIMINOLOGISTS FROM 20 COUNTRIES. THE CONFERENCE GOAL WAS TO SURVEY AND EVALUATE CRIMINAL APPROACHES TO TRAFFIC PROBLEMS. PARTICIPANTS FOCUSED ON CRITICISMS OF CONVENTIONAL TRAFFIC CODES, ON RECENT TRENDS IN CRIMINAL POLICY, ON THE ROLE OF POLICE AND COURTS IN ENFORCING TRAFFIC LAWS, ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIFFERENT SANCTIONS, AND ON THE SITUATION OF ACCIDENT VICTIMS. THE PUBLISHED PROCEEDINGS CONTAIN THE CONFERENCE PROGRAM, THE NAMES AND CREDENTIALS OF THE ORGANIZERS, A LIST OF PARTICIPANTS, AND A LIST OF REPRESENTATIVES OF CRIMINOLOGICAL ASSOCIATIONS. THE SPEECHES PRESENTED INCLUDE A SURVEY OF CURRENT PROBLEMS, AND EVALUATION OF VARIOUS LEGAL APPROACHES TO TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, COMMENTS ON THE TRAFFIC SITUATION IN THE UNITED STATES, AN ASSESSMENT OF THE INFLUENCE OF PUNISHMENT, AND A DISCUSSION OF THE ROLE OF THE POLICE IN TRAFFIC EDUCATION.
