DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIOUS COURTS AND AGENCIES INVOLVED IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
THE REPORT DISCUSSES THE ADMINISTRATION, ORGANIZATION, AND STRUCTURE OF THE VARIOUS CRIMINAL COURTS IN DELAWARE. IN ADDITION, THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE POLICE, THE PROSECUTORS, DEFENSE COUNSEL, AND PRETRIAL RELEASE AND PRESENTENCE OFFICERS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS PRESENTED. THE STUDY SUGGESTS THAT THE TWO MAJOR WEAKNESSES OF THE SYSTEM ARE PART TIME JUDGES, DEFENSE COUNSEL, AND PROSECUTORS, AND THE UNEVEN AND UNEQUAL QUALITY OF JUSTICE ADMINISTERED IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE STATE. IN ADDITION, IT OFFERS PROPOSALS TO REMEDY THESE DEFICIENCIES.
