A DESCRIPTION OF PENNSYLVANIA'S MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS) - A DATA BASE OF MEDICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND OCCUPATIONAL HISTORIES OF INMATES WHICH IS INTENDED TO AID IN SENTENCING REPEAT OFFENDERS.
Abstract
AVAILABILITY OF SUCH A DATA FILE, WHICH INCLUDES A SECTION OF MISCELLANEOUS ADJUSTMENT FACTORS, ENABLES THE SENTENCING JUDGE TO CONSIDER NOT ONLY THE OFFENDER'S PAST OFFENSE AND ADJUSTMENT HISTORY, BUT ALSO HIS POTENTIAL FOR FUTURE ADJUSTMENT AND REHABILITATION. PENNSYLVANIA HOPES TO ESTABLISH DATA BASED SIMILAR TO MIS FOR EACH OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND TO INTEGRATE THESE DATA BASES INTO AN OVERALL COMPREHENSIVE DATA SYSTEM.
