THE INFORMATION FLOW PROCESSES IN FOUR MAJOR COMPONENT AREAS OF THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN MASSACHUSETTS.
Abstract
THE OPERATIONS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN MASSACHUSETTS ARE DIVIDED INTO FOUR COMPONENT AREAS WHICH INVOLVE SPECIFIC TASKS - APPREHENSION, PROSECUTION, ADJUDICATION, AND REHABILITATION. THE APPROPRIATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES ARE IDENTIFIED WITH EACH COMPONENT, AND THE INFORMATION FLOWS SURROUNDING EACH AGENCY TASK ARE DESCRIBED. INTERFACES WITH AGENCIES OUTSIDE THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND WITH AGENCIES OF OTHER STATES AND OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. IN ADDITION TO OUTLINING THE INFORMATION FLOWS FOR EACH AGENCY, THIS REPORT SUMMARIZES THE GENERAL PURPOSE, FUNCTIONS, LEGAL AUTHORITY AND CONSTRAINTS, AND ORGANIZATION OF EACH AGENCY. A BIBLIOGRAPHY ON THE MASSACHUSETTS CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS INCLUDED IN THE APPENDICES. THIS VOLUME IS THE FIRST OF FIVE VOLUMES DOCUMENTING INFORMATION FLOWS WITHIN THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
