DISCUSSIONS OF POLICING, VICTIMOLOGY, AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING ARE INCLUDED IN A COLLECTION OF PAPERS FROM THE NOVEMBER 1974 MEETING OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CRIMINOLOGY.
Abstract
THE COLLECTION REPRESENTS A SELECTION OF PLANNING-RELATED PAPERS FROM THE MEETING, WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY SEVERAL HUNDRED SCHOLARS INTERESTED IN CRIMINOLOGY AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE. PAPERS ON POLICING DISCUSS WOMEN IN POLICING, POLICE AGGRESSION IN BLACK COMMUNITIES, POLICE CORRUPTION, AND POLICE PERSPECTIVES ON VICTIMLESS CRIMES. PAPERS ON VICTIMOLOGY REPORT ON HOUSING PATTERNS AND BURGLARY IN A MEDIUM-SIZED CITY, VULNERABILITY AND THE ELDERLY VICTIM IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT, AND BURGLARY AND THE PUBLIC. THE THIRD SECTION OF THE BOOK CONCERNS ISSUES IN MACROPLANNING. THREE PAPERS ARE BASED ON RESEARCH CONDUCTED BY THE COUNCIL OF STATE GOVERNMENT CONCERNING STATE LEGISLATURES, STATE SUPREME COURTS, AND OVERALL CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING BY THE STATES. THESE PAPERS EXAMINE DIFFERENCES IN PERCEPTIONS, PLANS, AND ACTIONS AMONG THE STATES WITH REGARD TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING, GOALS, AND PRACTICES. OTHER PAPERS DISCUSS THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS AND GOALS PROCESS IN MASSACHUSETTS, STANDARDS FOR RECRUITING AND RETAINING SECURITY PERSONNEL IN CORRECTIONAL DEPARTMENTS, AND ORGANIZED CRIME AND CRIMINAL LAW REFORM. FOR INDIVIDUAL PAPERS, SEE NCJ-31611, 32196, AND 44976-44986.
