THIS PROJECT WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE LEGAL RESEARCH ASSISTANCE SERVICES TO RURAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES AND OFFICIALS IN NEBRASKA USING SUPERVISED LAW STUDENTS WORKING IN MAJOR LAW CENTER LIBRARIES.
Abstract
THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE EFFORTS THAT HAVE BEEN UNDERTAKEN TO DETERMINE THE SCOPE OF RESEARCH ASSITANCE NEEDS, TO ANALYZE VARIOUS METHODS OF PROVIDING NEEDED SERVICES, AND TO TEST AND EVALUATE THE LAW CENTER MODEL IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS, COSTS, AND BENEFITS. EVALUATORS FOUND THAT THE PROGRAM PROVIDES COST-EFFECTIVE LEGAL RESEARCH SERVICES (CASE-BY-CASE MEMORANDA) TO RURAL PROSECUTORS, JUDGES, AND DEFENSE ATTORNEYS. HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO COMPLETE NUMEROUS SPECIAL PROJECTS DUE TO THE TIME REQUIRED TO FULFILL USER REQUESTS. THE MAIN BODY OF THIS REPORT IS TAKEN UP BY THREE APPENDIXES. APPENDIX A CONTAINS THE VARIOUS USER AND STUDENT EVALUATION FORMS USED. APPENDIX B PRESENTS THE RESPONSES TO EVALUATION QUESTIONNAIRES ACCORDING TO QUESTION AND TYPE OF USER. APPENDIX C CONTAINS COPIES OF UNSOLICITED LETTERS ABOUT THE PROJECT AND SAMPLE CASE FILES.
