For criminal justice researchers, this book discusses research planning, locating library information, and dealing with special research problems.
Abstract
The historic development of criminal justice studies and associated key publications are highlighted, followed by an overview of how information is generated and communicated by criminal justice researchers and practitioners. A master research plan for the neophyte researcher includes suggestions on choosing a topic, drafting an outline, mastering library use techniques, considering the information flow, establishing parameters, and other techniques. Also discussed are (1) computerized and manual bibliographic searching for information sources and (2) how and when to use each type of library resource. Special research problems, such as legal research, historical research, and comparative research, are also addressed. Appendixes contain selected lists of Library of Congress criminal justice subject headings, some useful directories, and abstracts of selected major national commission reports. Author-title and subject indexes.
