Articles on recent basic and applied criminal justice research discuss the legality of criminal justice experiments, rural victimization, rape victim injury, prosecutorial decisionmaking, a probation model, and a child-care center evaluation system.
Abstract
The chapter on criminal justice experiment legality considers constitutionality, government involvement in evaluation, and strategies for researchers facing objections to criminal justice research. The second essay compares the scope and type of crime found in rural areas to that of urban regions. The third paper, on prediction of the incidence and severity of rape victim injury, examines victim resistance, offense location, victim age, and offender characteristics. Two articles are concerned with the mechanics of prosecutorial decisionmaking. The first of these reports is a study of decisionmaking techniques in four cities; the second article studies evidentiary decisionmaking mechanisms. The incarceration diversion probation model described in another paper utilized face-to-face contact and behavioral contracts. The final essay presents an evaluation instrument developed for use in community-based residential child-care centers to measure microelements and macroelements as outcomes of staff and resident behaviors. Tabular data, charts, notes, and referenes are included with various chapters.
