Abstract
THE INTERVIEWS WERE OPEN-ENDED AND UNSTRUCTURED, FOCUSED ON FOUR BASIC ISSUES: FIRST, THE OFFICIALS CONCEPTION OF HIS ROLE IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM; SECONDLY, HIS PERCEPTION OF THE NEEDS AND PROBLEMS OF HIS AGENCY AS IT FULFILLS ITS ROLE IN THE SYSTEM; THIRD, THE OFFICIAL'S SUGGESTIONS FOR POTENTIAL DIRECTIONS FOR THE SOLUTION OF THESE PROBLEMS; AND FOURTH, THE OFFICIAL'S PERCEPTION OF THE OTHER AGENCIES IN THE LOCAL SYSTEM, AND THE SYSTEM AS A WHOLE.
