This volume presents the background and specific content of 16 recommendations for criminal justice training in Virginia through 1988.
Abstract
A training advisory committee initiated in 1984 identified 57 distinct issues in 6 general categories: academy funding and administration, mandated training, specialized training and facilities, field training, instructors, and higher education. The issues in each category were ranked, and the top quarter of each list became the list for action through 1988. Recommended actions include the development of an accreditation and certification process for training academies, development of an alternative method of funding for law enforcement training, consolidation of training into a single statewide facility, and use of incentive pay based on academic achievement. The history, current status, rationale, and impacts of each proposal are outlined.
