Abstract
THE FOCUS OF THIS PAMPHLET, INTENDED FOR THE LAYMAN, IS ON THE LAWS AND PRACTICES THAT PREVAIL IN MOST STATE SYSTEMS. POLICE-RELATED ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS INVESTIGATION AND ARREST DECISIONS, THE INITIAL CHARGING AND FOLLOW-UP INVESTIGATION, TEMPORARY DETENTION, AND RELEASE ON BAIL ARE FIRST DESCRIBED. THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, PLEA BARGAINING, THE PRELIMINARY HEARING, THE GRAND JURY, AND DEFENSE COUNSEL ARE DISCUSSED AS WELL. ALSO OUTLINED ARE COURT ACTIVITIES AND THE VARIOUS RIGHTS OF THE ACCUSED.
