Abstract
An introduction to criminal law discusses criminal law theory, common law and statutory crimes, classification of crimes, the distinction between crimes and torts, burden of proof, and burden of going forward. An examination of principles of criminal liability looks at criminal act requirements, criminal omission, criminal state of mind, and other factors. Two chapters describe offenses against persons excluding sex offenses and sex-related offenses against the person. Offenses against property (destruction and intrusion offenses), offenses involving theft, and forgery and other fraud offenses are explained. Other chapters look at offenses involving morality and decency, offenses against the public peace, and offenses against public justice and administration. In addition, preparatory activity crimes and capacity and defenses are explained. Judicial decisions pertaining to each chapter are presented in the second half of the book. An index is included.
