Court decisions in six criminal law cases involving minors are described.
Abstract
The cases cited concerned: (1) California statutes that permit minors awaiting sentencing to be remanded to the custody of the Youth Authority for evaluation and a report concerning the minor's amenability to training and treatment offered by the Youth Authority; (2) New Jersey judiciary's sentencing discretion in the absence of authority in the juvenile code; (3) California law regarding the extension of the limitation of actions period for suits based upon childhood sexual abuse; (4) application to some juvenile ward confinement actions of adult sentencing guidelines under California's Determinate Sentencing Act; (5) California juvenile court orders enjoining publication of the name and likeness of a minor charged at a public detention hearing with murder; and (6) Nevada law regarding the State's responsibility to establish statutory requirements of delay in obtaining medical treatment and knowledge of the injury in cases of child abuse.
