THIS TEXT PRESENTS A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO CRIMINAL LAW AND COURT PROCEDURES TO THE STUDENT WHO IS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR WHO WANTS TO BECOME ONE.
Abstract
THE TEXT IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH A SOUND INTRODUCTION TO LEGAL THEORY AND TO ASSIST IN APPLYING THAT THEORY TO THE EVERYDAY SITUATIONS FACED IN ENFORCING THE CRIMINAL LAW. SECTIONS DEAL WITH THE CRIMINAL LAW, SPECIFIC CRIMINAL OFFENSES, AND COURT PROCEDURES. MANY EXAMPLES TAKEN FROM ACTUAL POLICE CASES HELP TEACH THE BASIC RULES OF CRIMINAL LAW AND INCREASE THE STUDENT'S UNDERSTANDING OF PURPOSE AND REASONING BEHIND THESE RULES. ONLY THOSE SUBJECTS OF MOST IMMEDIATE CONCERN IN THE DAILY EXPERIENCE OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER ARE PRESENTED. THE TEXT ALSO INCLUDES PROBLEM SITUATIONS TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND REVIEW QUESTIONS SIMILAR TO THOSE ON CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS. (FOR COMPANION INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE, SEE NCJ-43496).
