Abstract
The text makes frequent use of examples and illustrations, analyzes and compares leading court cases, contains chapter outlines and sample police forms, lists key terms, and defines legal terms. Part one of the text focuses on the court system, constitutional rights, and the criminal justice process. Part two examines the exclusionary rule and probable cause. Part three looks at arrests, searches, and seizures, with emphasis on stop and frisk, immigration and border seizures, arrest and entrapment, vehicle stops and searches, the plain view doctrine, abandonment, and electronic surveillance. In addressing identification and interrogation, the fourth part of the text contains chapters on confessions and admissions and lineups and other pretrial identification procedures. The final two parts of the text explore constitutional rights and rules during trial and concerns related to law enforcement (sentencing, appeal, habeas corpus, unlawful police conduct, and lawsuits against the police). Additional information on criminal procedures is appended that concerns case briefings, effective witnessing, and constitutional rights. Figures and photographs
