THIS MANUAL ON CRIMINAL PROCEDURES FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IS DESIGNED TO HELP INSTRUCTORS TEACH STUDENTS PRACTICAL REALTIES OF CRIMINAL LAW AND THE APPLICATION OF LEGAL PRINCIPLES.
Abstract
THREE WAYS IN WHICH FACT SITUATIONS AND OPINION EXCERPTS IN THE MANUAL CAN BE USED BY INSTRUCTORS ARE SUGGESTED: (1) INSTRUCTORS CAN HAND OUT DUPLICATE OR TYPEWRITTEN COPIES OF A FACT SITUATION TO STUDENTS FOR HOMEWORK; (2) RATHER THAN ASSIGN A FACT SITUATION AS HOMEWORK, INSTRUCTORS CAN EITHER READ OR HAND OUT A FACT SITUATION FOR DISCUSSION IN CLASS; AND (3) A FACT SITUATION CAN BE USED AS AN EXAMINATION QUESTION AND LATER DISCUSSED IN CLASS OR COVERED IN HOMEWORK. FACT SITUATIONS OR CASES INCLUDED IN THE MANUAL CONCERN ARREST, SEARCH WARRANTS, PROBABLE CAUSE, SEARCH INCIDENT TO ARREST, CONSENT SEARCH, PLAIN VIEW, SEARCH AND SEIZURE OF VEHICLES WITHOUT A WARRANT, OPEN FIELDS AND ABANDONED PROPERTY, THE MIRANDA DOCTRINE, STOP AND FRISK, PRETRIAL IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURES, CRIME INVESTIGATION, CRIMINAL COURT PROCEDURES, EVIDENCE, AND TESTIFYING IN COURT.
