ANALYSIS OF DATA FROM AN LEAA/NATIONAL CRIME PANEL SURVEY OF PERSONAL, HOUSEHOLD, AND BUSINESS VICTIMIZATION IN THE EIGHT IMPACT CITIES: ATLANTA, BALTIMORE, DALLAS CLEVELAND, DENVER, NEWARK, PORTLAND (OR), AND ST. LOUIS.
Abstract
A BRIEF HISTORICAL NOTE REGARDING PERSPECTIVES ON VICTIMS OF CRIME IS FOLLOWED BY A DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF VICTIMIZATION SURVEYING TECHNIQUES, INCLUDING THE METHOD USED TO GENERATE THE DATA DISCUSSED. SURVEY FINDINGS REGARDING PERSONAL VICTIMIZATIONS VICTIM AND OFFENDER CHARACTERISTICS, CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING VICTIMIZATION, AND CONSEQUENCES OF VICTIMIZATION - ARE THEN PRESENTED, ALONG WITH COMPARABLE RESULTS FOR VICTIMS OF HOUSEHOLD AND BUSINESS CRIMES, RESPECTIVELY. FAILURE TO NOTIFY THE POLICE ABOUT PERSONAL, HOUSEHOLD, AND BUSINESS VICTIMIZATIONS IS EXPLORED. SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES IN THE FINDINGS FOR PERSONAL, HOUSEHOLD, AND BUSINESS VICTIMIZATIONS ARE SUMMARIZED. VARIOUS TABULAR DATA ARE ALSO PRESENTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
