SIXTH IN A SERIES OF ANNUAL REPORTS FROM THE NATIONAL CRIME SURVEY, THIS REPORT PRESENTS COMPREHENSIVE DATA ON SELECTED CRIMES OF VIOLENCE AND THEFT FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1978.
Abstract
Events not reported to the police as well as those reported to the police are included. Information on victims, offenders, crime characteristics, and other topics is based on a representative sample of some 65,000 households across the country. In interviews conducted at 6-month intervals, the following crimes were investigated: (1) personal crimes including rape, robbery, assault, and personal larceny; and (2) property crime, including burglary, household larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Selected findings from the more than 100 statistical tables are presented in a special section and illustrated by graphics. Methodological appendixes and a series of technical notes are appended as aids to the interpretation of survey results. Data for this report were collected and analyzed by the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
