This 16th annual report prepared under the National Crime Survey program presents information on criminal victimization in the United States during 1988.
Abstract

The information is based on a continuing survey of the occupants of a representative sample of housing units in the United States. The survey is administered for the National Crime Survey program by the U.S. Bureau of the Census. The report focuses on the personal crimes of rape, robbery, assault, and larceny as well as the household crimes of burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Attempted and completed crimes are included. The report examines the frequency and impact of crimes, characteristics of victims and offenders, circumstances surrounding the crimes, and patterns of reporting to the police. 5 appendixes, glossary, and 114 tables.
