BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A COMPUTERIZED INFORMATION SYSTEM NOW UNDER DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIFICALLY AIMED AT AIDING CRIMINALISTICS LABORATORIES AROUND THE UNITED STATES.
Abstract
IN SUMMARY, THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CRIMINALISTIC'S LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEM WILL ENABLE CRIMINALISTS TO DISCARD THEIR CUMBERSOME FILING SYSTEMS AND PROVIDE THEM WITH ALL THE FUNDAMENTAL REFERENCE MATERIAL NECESSARY IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DAILY ACTIVITIES. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUCH A SYSTEM SHOULD PROVIDE FOR A MORE INDEPTH EVALUATION OF AN ANALYSIS PRODUCED DATA, HASTEN TURN-AROUND TIME AND LIGHTEN TO SOME DEGREE THE HEAVY CASELOAD THAT LABORATORIES ARE NOW EXPERIENCING. AT THE SAME TIME, IT SHOULD ALSO ALLOW FOR BETTER EVALUATIONS AND LESSEN THE DUPLICATION OF RESEARCH. FINALLY, THE POOLING OF INFORMATION WILL ACCELERATE THE PROGRESS OF CRIMINALISTICS IN THE UNITED STATES AND RAISE THE QUALITY LEVEL THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
