THE ABSOLUTE INCREASE IN CRIMINALITY THIS CENTURY IN ITALY MUST BE INTERPRETED IN LIGHT OF THE GROWTH OF POPULATION AND OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICULAR CRIMES.
Abstract
WHILE KNOWN CRIME HAS INCREASED APPROXIMATELY 90 PERCENT FROM 1901 TO 1971, POPULATION HAS INCREASED 50 PERCENT. EXCLUDING LARCENY, CASES OF WHICH HAVE QUADRUPLED, THE INCREASE IN CRIMES IS ONLY 20 PERCENT. TABLES SHOW THE NUMBERS OF 8 CATEGORIES OF CRIME ASCERTAINED IN EACH DECADE OF THE CENTURY. --IN ITALIAN
