Abstract
THE AUTHOR MAINTAINS THAT A LARGE AMOUNT OF MASS MEDIA CRIME REPORTING CAN TRIGGER VIOLENT BEHAVIOR. EXAMPLES OF PETTY CRIMINALS WHOSE CAREERS HAVE BEEN MADE NOTORIOUS BY MEDIA COVERAGE ARE PROVIDED, AND THE POSITION THAT SUCH REPORTING CAN HAVE A SERIOUS DETRIMENTAL EFFECT ON NEUROTIC PEOPLE IS ADVANCED.
