Abstract
THE FIRST PROJECT ON THE USE OF FINES WITHIN THE SYSTEM OF PENAL LAW SANCTIONS, AS OPPOSED TO IMPRISONMENT FOUND THE USE OF FINES TO BE A WORTHWHILE TREND. A PROJECT ON THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ACTUAL AND REPORTED CRIMES CONCLUDES THAT OFFICIAL CRIME STATISTICS COVER ONLY A SMALL PART OF ALL CRIMES COMMITTED. A THIRD STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST MODEL INSTITUTION FOR SOCIAL THERAPY FOUND THAT ABOUT A THIRD LESS RECONVICTIONS OF INMATES RECEIVING SOCIAL THERAPY. A STUDY OF PERSONALITY AND SOCIAL STATUS ASPECTS OF JUVENILE OFFENDERS FOUND THAT THESE JUVENILES HAD BAD HOME ENVIRONMENTS AND INCOMPLETE EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING. ANOTHER REPORT ON THE PROGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS SUGGESTS THAT THE PRETRIAL DETENTION CENTER HAS IMPROVED RELATIONS BETWEEN STAFF AND INMATES. A FIFTH REPORT ON WHITE-COLLAR CRIMES SHOWED FEWER TRIALS AND CONVICTIONS FOR SUCH CASES THAN FOR OTHER CRIMES. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH PROJECTS WERE CONDUCTED ON THE TOPICS OF THE WILLINGNESS OF INDIVIDUALS TO FILE CRIMINAL CHARGES, PREMEDITATED MURDER, AND THE FEDERAL RECORD OF WHITE-COLLAR CRIMES ACCORDING TO THEIR UNIFORM ASPECTS. BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ON FIVE RESEARCH REPORTS, NINE RESEARCH STUDIES, AND THREE RESEARCH STUDIES IN PROGRESS. NO REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED. (KCP)
