Abstract
THE CONSTITUENT ELEMENTS IN THE CRIMINAL SYSTEM ARE INDIVIDUALLY EXAMINED IN THE TEXT. THE FORMULATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL LAW, AND THE VARIOUS TYPES OF CRIMINAL LAW THAT EXIST IN THE UNITED STATES ARE DISCUSSED. THE AUTHOR THEN EXAMINES PATTERNS OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, INCLUDING THE SOCIOLOGY OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS AND PROPERTY, WHITE-COLLAR CRIME, ORGANIZED CRIME, AND CRIMES COMMITTED BY THE AMERICAN STATE. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE ENFORCEMENT AND JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATIONS, CUSTODY AND PUNISHMENT, AND TREATMENT AND CORRECTIONS. INTERSPERSED THROUGHOUT THE TEXT ARE 'DOCUMENTS' AND 'VIEWPOINTS' - ITEMS FROM VARIOUS SOURCES USED TO AMPLIFY THE DISCUSSION. THESE ARE DRAWN FROM OFFICIAL PUBLICATIONS AND FROM STATEMENTS BY AUTHORITIES AND PRACTITIONERS IN THE FIELD OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
