THE ORIGINS OF CRIMINAL LAWS AND THE FUNCTIONS THEY PERFORM ARE FIRST EXAMINED. THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS THEN DESCRIBED, WITH EMPHASIS ON THE DIFFICULTIES IN ITS OPERATION. THE TEXT THEN TURNS TO OTHER TYPES OF CRIME SUCH AS ORGANIZED CRIME, WHITE COLLAR CRIME, AND POLITICAL CRIME. AMONG THE ASPECTS OF THE CRIMINAL DISCUSSED IN THE TEXT ARE CRIMINAL CAREERS, THE ADDICT AND CRIME, THE SEX OFFENDER, THE SOCIOPATHIC OFFENDER, AND PATTERNS OF VIOLENCE.
