THIS DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW DEPARTMENT OF PENAL AND CRIMINOLOGICAL SCIENCES OF THE SCHOOL OF LAW AND POLITICAL SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY OF PANAMA COVERS ITS AIMS, CURRICULA, FACULTY ADMISSION PREREQUISITES, AND RESEARCH.
Abstract
THE NEW DEPARTMENT IS DEVOTED TO THE SPECIALIZED TRAINING, AT THE GRADUATE LEVEL, OF LAWYERS, PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEMBERS IN DISTRICT ATTORNEYS' OFFICES, JUVENILE COURT MAGISTRATES, CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS, AND OFFICERS OF THE PANAMANIAN NATIONAL GUARD AND THE NATIONAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION. THE CURRICULUM WILL CONSIST OF COURSES IN THE THEORY OF CRIMINOLOGY (WITH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH) AND CRIMINALISTICS. THIS PRESENTATION INCLUDES THE FULL TEXT OF THE RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PANAMA, CREATING THE DEPARTMENT, AND A LIST OF GOVERNMENT-SPONSORED RESEARCH PROJECTS THAT WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE CRIMINOLOGY INSTITUTE. PROGRAMS OF ANTHROPOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH AS RELATED TO FORENSIC MEDICINE ARE AMONG PROSPECTIVE PROJECTS AS IS A SURVEY OF PRISON INMATES, ESPECIALLY OF THEIR PHYSICAL AND MORAL CONDITION AND THEIR PROGRESS TOWARDS SOCIAL REINTEGRATION. SURVEY WILL BE UTILIZED BY THE GOVERNMENT AS A BASIS FOR A PLANNED CORRECTIONAL REFORM. THE NAMES, ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS, AND BRIEF BIOGRAPHIES OF THE MOST PROMINENT TEACHERS AT THE NEW DEPARTMENT ARE ALSO GIVEN. --IN SPANISH.
