The introductory chapters cover crime and criminology, the incidence of crime, and elements of criminal law in the U.S. The book presents several approaches to criminological theory including the classical school, biological school, psychological perspective, ecological perspective, and the relationships between social structure, social process, and social conflict and crime. The final section, on crime typologies, focuses on crime and criminal careers, violent crime in the U.S., emerging forms of violence, property crime, public order crimes, substance abuse, organized crime and white collar crimes, and the future of criminal justice and criminology.
