This volume in the series of intelligence booklets on the Crips and Bloods street gangs concerns how private citizens are taking action and how the law enforcement community is taking a proactive stance to combat the emerging violent gang problem.
Abstract
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) continues to focus national attention on the criminal behavior attributed to the Crips and Bloods street gangs. The activities of these gangs are turning increasingly violent; the extensive use of firearms and explosives is now becoming part of their daily routine. What was once considered solely a Los Angeles, California, area problem has increasingly become a national problem. With the recruitment of local individuals and the cooperation of other gangs, in some locations the Crips and Bloods have expanded their illegal drug trafficking enterprises to over 104 cities in 31 States nationwide. The resultant effect of this expansion has been that these armed gang members and their associates have been directly responsible for the escalation of violence in America.
