An overview explains the nature of a crisis, the elements of crises, the phases of crisis, client feelings during crisis, and psychological effects of crisis. The six goals of crisis treatment and a nine-step crisis intervention model are next presented. The role of crisis intervention teams, the use of specialized multidisciplinary teams, and the use of crisis as an opportunity to initiate change are explained. Additional sections focus on crisis intervention assessment, crisis intervention treatment approaches and techniques, techniques to use in special situations such as parental mental illness, and termination and followup issues.
