The incarceration of mentally ill persons has become a major problem in our nation's jails -- most of which are ill-equipped to provide the required diagnosis and treatment.
Abstract
In this 'Journal' forum, Mark Pogrebin reviews the literature describing the problem, and asks for more involvement of mental health professionals in finding appropriate solutions. Charles J. Meyers, in excerpts from a speech he delivered to the Western Psychological Association, describes one county's solution to the problem. (Author abstract)
