Experience with the Bureau of Justice Assistance's Correctional Options Demonstration Program indicates prudently managed, cost-conscious correctional interventions have several similar characteristics.
Abstract
Each intervention involves key stakeholders, targets program services and supervision to a well-defined group of offenders, creates case management plans that address risks and needs of individual offenders, cultivates broad-based public support, and ensure program integrity through ongoing monitoring and evaluation. Activities and tasks involved in the design, implementation, and operation of correctional options based on the experiences of nine correctional agencies funded under the Correctional Options Demonstration Program are described according to three stages: program planning, program development, and program implementation. Appendixes contain a bibliography and sources of further information, as well as brief descriptions of programs in California, Connecticut, Florida, Arizona, Maryland, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Washington. 21 references
