A CLINICAL EVALUATION OF A METHADONE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM THAT ATTEMPTS TO DETERMINE THE PROGRAM'S EFFECTIVENESS IN REHABILITATING DRUG ABUSERS.
Abstract
THE DATA FOR THIS STUDY WERE OBTAINED FROM RECORDS OF AND INTERVIEWS WITH 199 CLIENTS OF THE CENTER, 91 OF WHOM HAD TERMINATED TREATMENT. THE RELEVANT DEMOGRAPHIC, DRUG-RELATED, AND CHANGE-IN-TREATMENT CHARACTERISTICS ARE PRESENTED FOR BOTH ACTIVE AND TERMINATED PATIENTS. LENGTH OF STAY IN TREATMENT IS DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO ARREST, EMPLOYMENT, COUNSELING, DRUG USE, AND THE SIZE OF THE STARTING METHADONE DOSE. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE CONCERNING IMPROVING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROGRAM. DATA ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR AND GRAPHIC FORM IN THE APPENDIX. FOR THE FINAL EVALUATION REPORT ON THIS PROJECT PLEASE REFER TO NCJ-15684.
