BEAD, A TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR RAPE OFENDERS BASED ON THE PREMISE THAT PUBLIC SEX EDUCATION MAY REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF RAPE, IS DESCRIBED IN THIS AUDIOCASSETTE.
Abstract
THE BEAD PROGRAM IS A TAPE, MOVIE, AND COUNSELING SERVICE DESIGNED TO TEACH OFFENDERS ABOUT SEX. PROGRAM MATERIALS INCLUDE A SERIES OF EROTIC FILMS, USED TO TEACH OFFENDERS TO ENJOY SEX, AND TO BE TENDER, GENTLE, AND LOVING. SOME PSYCHOLOGISTS THINK THAT RAPISTS TEND TO HAVE LESS CONTACT WITH EROTIC MATERIALS, WHICH DRIVES THEM TO THEIR CRIMES. THE BEAD PROGRAM PROVIDES DISCUSSION GROUPS FOR THE MEN SO THAT THEY MAY TALK ABOUT THE EROTIC MATERIALS AND LEARN HOW TO UNDERSTAND SEXUALITY AND WOMEN. IN THESE ENCOUNTER GROUPS, THE MEN DISCUSS THEIR SEXUAL FANTASIES, SO THAT SHOCK THERAPY CAN BE USED TO CURE THEIR FETISHES. THE PROGRAM TRIES TO TEACH THE MEN TO DEAL WITH WOMEN SO THAT THE WOMEN WILL LIKE THEM. ONCE THE MAN HAS DEVELOPED A SUITABLE RELATIONSHIP WITH A WOMAN, HE WILL BE LESS LIKELY TO COMMIT RAPE. PSYCHOLOGISTS BELIEVE THAT, IF THE GENERAL PUBLIC WAS BETTER EDUCATED ABOUT SEX, SOME OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL MISCONCEPTIONS WOULD BE RELIEVED. THIS MAY, IN TURN, REDUCE THE NUMBER OF RAPES. (BAC)
