COMPARISON OF THE SEVERITY, NUMBER, AND RATE OF OFFENSES FOR ALL MALE DISCHARGEES WHO WERE MEMBERS OF THE DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT OR GUIDED GROUP INTERACTION UNITS.
Abstract
FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL WHO RECEIVED A FAVORABLE DISCHARGE FROM THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY'S COMMUNITY TREATMENT PROJECT, THE DATA WERE ANALYZED IN TERMS OF FOUR SEPARATE INDICES OF BEHAVIOR. THE INDICES WERE SEVERITY OF POST-DISCHARGE OFFENSES, NUMBER OF POST-DISCHARGE OFFENSES PER DISCHARGEE, NUMBER OF POST-DISCHARGE OFFENSES PER DISCHARGEE WITH ONE OR MORE OFFENSES, AND PERCENTAGE OF DISCHARGEES WITH POST-DISCHARGE OFFENSES. COMBINING THE RESULTS FROM THE COHORTS OF DISCHARGEES STUDIED, 12 AND 18 MONTHS AFTER RELEASE, THE AUTHORS FOUND THAT THE DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT UNIT PERFORMED SLIGHTLY, BUT NOT SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER, THAN THE GUIDED GROUP INTERACTION UNIT ON POST-DISCHARGE FOLLOWUP.
