Abstract
The material is intended for use in inservice training or for college courses. The first paper suggests that effective leaders go beyond managerial tasks to adopt a new paradigm to allow them to take risks and act in a cooperative manner that permits the leaders to model behaviors that they want their subordinates to display. Additional papers outline a fast-track management system for law enforcement based on a pilot study of the National Institute of Justice, describe the Executive Excellence Program of the National Institute of Corrections (NIC), and discuss the NIC Executive Leadership Training for Women. Further papers describe NIC's peer interaction training for wardens from different jurisdictions, the nature of mentoring programs, and change management. Chapter reference lists
