Police agencies experiencing cutbacks in funding for supervisory training can obtain training through a variety of innovations.
Abstract
Many agencies have personnel who have knowledge and experience in specialized areas and who can conduct training within the department. Other alternatives are to share scarce training resources between departments, use local industrial trainers, obtain spaces in industrial management schools, and use FBI programs at the National Academy and the FBI Field Police School Program. Another approach is to establish a co-host arrangement in which the host agency provides the facility, audiovisual equipment, and an on-site coordinator to a commercial organization in return for free or reduced tuition for agency personnel. Further methods are to use commercial schools, obtain scholarships or sponsorships, or form a cooperative arrangement with the criminal justice department of a local college or university.
